Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel emphasized the critical importance of meeting revenue targets during a recent event in Kathmandu. He warned that failure to achieve these goals would jeopardize the security of all involved, including ministers, secretaries, and various department heads.
Paudel urged subordinate agencies to prioritize revenue collection and adopt a more amicable approach towards taxpayers. He stressed the need to distance tax administration from fear-based tactics and intimidation, advocating instead for a friendly and supportive environment for taxpayers.
He stated, “If we don’t meet our revenue targets, no one is safe—ministers, secretaries, or even I myself. It's imperative that we reach the revenue goals set for us.” He encouraged tax officials to foster positive interactions with taxpayers, highlighting that many tax offices have improved their customer service, though some still need to change their approach.
Paudel further advised that any instances of exploitation or coercion in tax dealings must cease, reinforcing that the focus should be on regulation rather than intimidation. He concluded by reiterating the importance of treating service users with respect and courtesy, urging officials to continue striving for improvement in taxpayer relations.
