People's Representative People's Servant: Prime Minister

Kathmandu, March 25: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said that the people's representatives are the servants of the people. Prime Minister Oli said that the people have elected and sent the people's representatives as servants for development, good governance, building a prosperous society and establishing the rights of the people.

Addressing a program organized on the occasion of the 28th anniversary of the Association of Nepal Municipalities on Wednesday, Prime Minister Oli stressed on the need to work with a sense of service as high as the people's representative. He said, "People's representatives at the local level should be active in the role of positive transformation of the society, delivery of state services to the citizens, providing humanitarian services and advancing the pace of development."

Highlighting the work done by the local level in the prevention and control of corona, Prime Minister Oli said, "The role of the local level is becoming more important and extraordinary now." Stating that the government has never hesitated to empower the local level, he said that the budget will be provided to the local level on the basis of capacity.

Stating that there are 761 governments in Nepal including federal government, seven state governments and 753 local governments and the objective of all the governments is to build a prosperous society, Prime Minister Oli said, "Now no one should be helpless." Instructing the local level to compete for good work, he said that the federal government would provide all kinds of assistance. Stating that the federal government will provide necessary resources to the local level, he clarified that the local level will not be able to do all aspects at once as the local level is a new practice for Nepal.

Prime Minister Oli said that the responsibility of the people's representatives at all three levels was for the transformation of the society and everyone should work together. As Nepal is becoming self-sufficient in fish, meat and eggs, Nepal will gradually become self-sufficient in other products and move towards exporting goods, he said. On the occasion, Oli released a book titled "Strategic Plan" published by the association.

Minister for Federal Affairs and General Administration Ganesh Singh Thagunna said that the role of the local level in dealing directly with the people has always been commendable. He appreciated the role of the local level in education, health infrastructure development and effective service delivery.

On the occasion, the association honored the municipality of Tilotta in Rupendehi for its excellent work in good governance and service delivery, the municipality for its excellent work in urban planning, environment and disaster risk reduction management, the walling of Syangja and the excellent work of financial discipline and revenue mobilization.

Receiving the award, Mayor of Tilotta, Basudev Ghimire, said that the municipality has done an excellent job by promoting city sanitation and greenery and enacting dozens of laws at once. General Secretary of the Association of Municipalities of Nepal Bhim Dhungana, General Secretary of the National Federation of Villages Nepal Banshlal Tamang and General Secretary of the District Coordination Committee Krishnachandra Neupane said that the citizens can be prosperous only if the local level is strong.
