Kathmandu, March 24: The Supreme Court has issued an order to immediately stop the distribution of mountain guide licenses started by the Department of Tourism.
Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Cholendra Shamsher Ja wa ra has issued an interim order not to distribute the license immediately on the basis of the information published by the department on Fagun 26.
The department had called on the 2,094 people who received the red book distributed by the Nepal Mountaineering Association to apply for licenses immediately. However, despite the Supreme Court order to stop the work on Chaitra 9, the department has already distributed the record-breaking climber Kamirita Sherpa on Chaitra 10.
Thirty mountain guides, including Lakpa Randu Sherpa, had filed a writ petition in the court against the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, saying the red book distributed by the association was not suitable for the mountain guide. As the petitioner has demanded an interim order in the distribution of the license, the court has also ordered both the parties to appear for a discussion on Fagun 18 stating why this has happened and why the order will not be issued.
Aang Nuru Sherpa, president of the Nepal National Mountaineering Guides Association, has accused the government of distributing mountain guide licenses without any basis or criteria. There is a practice of issuing guide licenses from mountain participating countries around the world by fulfilling the requirements of Mountain Guide. Mountain guides who have completed this process are recognized not only for Nepal but also around the world. Nepal National Mountaineering Pathfinder Association is a member of the International Mountaineering Pathfinder Association.
The 24 countries with mountains are participating in the International Union. Nepal, a member of the association, had gained international recognition in 2012. According to the association, there are currently 72 mountain guides in Nepal. According to the association, these guides are recognized all over the world. In Asia, Japan, Kyrgyzstan and Nepal are the only member countries in Nepal, while in South Asia, Nepal is the only member country.
